Ok, admittedly, I go through these spells of not typing a lot and putting more on paper. Or at least attempt to anyway. But either way it goes, it takes a rejuvenating experience to bring me back to life.
With that being said, I have to tell you how dope (to me meaning; elated, impactful, and full of new outlooks) DIY Makers Con was this year. The goal was to curate the ultimate conference for women created to celebrate, educate & provide a platform for creative entrepreneurs, DIYers & Makers. I must say I go into situations with an open mind and this event exceeded my expectations. From registration to wrap up, it was a pleasure to engage with such unique, creative, individuals.
Not only were my takeaways authentic items I created myself like an end table, soy candle, and change purse! + giveaways (I never win anything lol). I left with a sense of community, connection & creativity. The fact that it was held at the Kroc Center nearby was a plus on top of that. The fact that folks traveled from near and far to attend the conference made it extra special.
I could spend time elaborating on the wonderful panelist, instead I will leave you with their media accounts to check out in case you feel like drifting to catch some creative vibes. Here below I’ll share some of the overall gems I picked up from the conversations.
Finances
Financial challenges can sometimes be a barrier, IT’S OK to make decisions based on values.
Choose investors and make funding requests that align with your mission.
Mentors
Avoid comparison, understand that inspiration & influence can be received in various ways.
Relationship building in general is key to creating genuine & unique experiences.
Branding
#ImposterSyndrome now that was an honest discussion. Ultimately, it’s about being who you say you are & doing what you say you’ll do. I could also add #integrity!
Sum it up to say, be confident in your appearance, presentation & approach to your business/brand. Pivots to your plan most of the time cause growth.
Media + press release kits can be useful to pitch what you do & what your interested in.
Truth be told, I’m already looking forward to upcoming events. But, until next time, this one goes to all the movers, shakers & creative makers! Stay true to who you are + thankful for the talents you have.
Glad we connected.
