Pom Pom Curtains ~DIY~

Good day, great people!

I’m back at it again, sharing a create it yourself tutorial for my creatives, handy mamas and all those interested in trying their hand at a new craft. These curtains have been on my “to do” list for sometime now. The anticipation was worth it because I am in love with the final look! I spent a total of $30 after coupons using materials on hand plus sewing supplies from Joann fabrics. Chop, chop let’s get to it.

Materials:

  • Basic Drapes (mine happened to be from ikea)

  • 7 yards pom pom trim (your choice of color)

  • Straight Pins

  • Matching thread

  • Sewing Machine (or)

  • Hot Glue Gun + Sticks

Now, let’s be honest who doesn’t love a shortcut? This look can easily be achieved using the same materials but using a hot glue gun instead. I however put my gifted sewing machine to use, I figured it would be great practice using a straight stitch.

  1. Start with your clean drapes (I used what I had) because they were neutral and plain, other than that they were in good condition.

  2. I noticed some post on Pinterest where the trim was exposed or tucked and I preferred the exposed look. I also went with black pom poms because I favor a regal gender/neutral aesthetic. So, once you’ve decided the look and color your going for. Tack the trim to the drape along the edge with your straight pins.

  3. Next, depending on your preferred method of glue or sewing start at the beginning and attach your trim around, moving about 4 inches at a time to avoid gathering and unevenness. Remove your straight pins as you go along.

  4. Once complete, insert your curtain rod and mount to wall. Double check for wrinkles to be steamed or remove and iron depending on how intricate you are to details.

Here’s the thing, materials and trim length may vary depending on your curtains. (I have two other windows to take care of, will do after I acquire more trim lol). For now I used 6 yards on (1) 63” panel. I actually liked the look of one panel versus two. The remainder of pom poms I used as tie backs for the curtain. Total project time from start to finish was about 3 hours and I absolutely adore the pom pom addition to my once basic window treatments.
